Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is L-Mail really much cheaper than traditional mail?

A: It is easy to see the savings of sending a 3 page letter to the USA at 64p all inclusive compared to a stamp alone from the UK at 68p alone from Royal Mail. However on other occasions the cost of an L-Mail may seem high compared to the postage cost of the letter.

It is important when performing your calculations you don't miss an important component - your time. Any letter you write will require you to obtain the stationery and stamps, once printed you will need to fold and insert your letter in an envelope. A trip to the post office or post box will also be required. Lets put this at a conservative 10 minutes and assume your working for £5 an hour. This time alone equates to 83p. Add to this the cost of the stamp, paper, envelope and ink and the cost of your letter is likely to be in the region of £1.23. When viewed in this light an L-Mail could represent a saving of around 45p.

We do not aim to compete with bulk mailing houses and, given the increasing popularity of email, our target at present is individuals and businesses who send the occasional letter probably because the recipient does not have email.

As more people use L-Mail our prices will lower and hopefully having used the system users will gain confidence in our service and recognise the convenience it offers.
